On Monday we discussed the Beaufort Wind Scale and how it is used. After practicing using the scale in class, students were permitted to complete the two multiple choice (selected response or SR) questions on their homework in class, using the scale on the back of their sheet. The students were instructed to take the sheet home and complete the constructed response question for homework. Students were instructed to use complete sentences as well as proper punctuation and capitalization. I will inform them tomorrow that I will be taking a writing grade on this as well. They will be told that a complete sentence would be: The wind speed is x to y miles per hour. The sea would have a... b... and c. Their response really should not be more than two to four sentences. They will receive two grades for the assignment - one for writing, and one for science. I will review this with them on Thursday and allow them to revise their writing Thursday night prior to turning it in on Friday.
